Re Rule Change proposals from Wakayama WTC meeting.
Dear Chris and Michael,
Thank you for your posts.
While as a general rule I deem it wise not to answer rhetorical questions, I think that in the present situation the class will benefit if I state my position clearly. As I see it –
· The resurgent Tasar class is heir to a fifty year history of careful, transparent, highly successful research and development, and this R and D has influenced the class’ rules as well as the boat’s dynamics.
· I have seen no correspondence in support of the rule change proposals from Wakayama.
· In recent correspondence with Alistair Murray we both agree that no change should be considered unless it is supported by meaningful and carefully analysed data. To date there has not been sufficient time to progress trials.
The position that I take is that until relevant new data is presented, it is not only my privilege, it is also my duty to protect the class from the consequences of a possible capricious rule change.
I will veto any proposal to delete the crew rule which is not supported by relevant data.
Sincerely,
Frank Bethwaite, Designer.
